My journey: Kelly Quibell 26 years old Cape Town About me before I found out about Sleekgeek: I started gaining weight when I started drinking in high school. Weekends consisted of drinking and bad food. I kept gaining weight till February 2014 when I weighed my heaviest 116kg. I ate out at least 3 times a week, drank heavily almost every night and my sleep would range between 2-5 hours a night. I never drank water at all. My relationship with my family did not exist. Even though I work for my father’s company, we hardly spoke. I was more interested when the next party was, and more importantly, how drunk we were going to be. My point of change: Being 25, we used to go to a few outdoor festivals. I was so used to people making comments about my weight, more often than not people I did not even know. I used to block it all out. We were at an outdoor trance party and getting some food, a young guy walked past and commented “doesn’t look like you need any food” That comment has stuck in my head and will always be stuck in my head. But instead of letting it break me down, I turned that comment into something positive. How I made the change: I was so determined to make a change, I became obsessed with looking at fitness pictures! I contacted a high school friend who was into gym and asked if he knew any small gyms as Virgin Active was not for me. He put me in contact with a trainer Jarrod Lesar at X Body Fitness in Claremont. I started training with Jarrod in February 2014 3 times a week after work. It was in this time that I came across Sleekgeek on Facebook, and kept seeing articles and friends posting recipes etc. This is when I joined the group and followed on the side lines watching everyone’s transformations and reading through Prava’s recipes. I slowly started trying recipes made by fellow Sleekgeeks. I could not believe the food actually tasted great and left you feeling guilt free. I then entered the Winter Challenge and started my first reboot. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. After 30 days I had cheats here and there, but I was way more observant to what I was cooking and how I was cooking. I started to change sunflower oil to coconut oil, cut out dairy completely, all these changes started showing changes to my body, how my skin looked. I started drinking 3L + of bottled water a day, in my foundation I went two shades lighter from my diet changing and my skin was amazing. I attended my first Sleekgeek dinner in August. I was so inspired listening to the other Sleeks at the table with us talking about their journey. It gave me more motivation than anything I had come across before. This journey has not been easy, I have had to leave a lot of people behind because my new lifestyle did not fit into theirs but this is my journey now, nobody else’s. I am now 28kg lighter, and I am only half way to my goal. 10473759_10152419112175950_858189051863734906_n[1]   Sleekgeek has changed my entire life, not only by losing weight but my relationship with my family has never been better. I have taken on a new hobby of gardening. I love being up at 8am on a Saturday morning gardening, because the old me would be in bed very hungover. I can have an entire day to spend in the garden or on family outings. That is the biggest reward I have gotten from my journey. Training: I train with Jarrod Lesar who is a personal trainer at X Body Fitness in Claremont. X Body fitness is a small gym, which was ideal for me who did not like the larger gym. I always get asked “isn’t it expensive” All I say is it is the best money I have ever spent! I am 28kg lighter, stronger than I have ever been in my entire life. The training we do is weight training, cardio for fat loss and muscle toning.  He is a great trainer, really down to earth. I train 3 times a week with Jarrod. I have now started to join in other ways of exercise, I did the colour run with my mom and friends this year. I will also get to start doing the parkruns soon. Eating: ANYTHING GREEN lol! :D I do cheat now and then, I am human and I love food. I have just learnt that prepping your food helps. I try to cut out dairy, carbs and sugar. In my day to day living, it really helps to take it day by day it is a lot easier to manage. Learn to try new foods, I never ate tuna EVER! Now I do and my body agrees it is good for you. :D Tips:

  • Drink 3L + water a day
  • You need to do the change for you, not for anyone else
  • Remember why you started!!

See you on the group! Kelly x Kelly You CAN
